59th Historia Medica Lecture: William Owens (WashU Anesthesiology)

We are pleased to announce William D. Owens, MD will be our guest lecturer for the 59th Historia Medica that will take place in the Becker Medical Library’s King Center (7th floor) on Thursday, November 9.  

Dr. Owen’s lecture, “History of Anesthesiology at Washington University School of Medicine and Barnes Hospital, 1910-1992” will begin at 4:30 p.m. 

The lecture will present the history of anesthesia at Barnes Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine from 1910 to 1992, basically a microcosm of the history of anesthesia in the United States in the 1900s distinguished by a conflict between surgeons, hospitals, and anesthesiologists.  The emphasis will be on the personalities involved at Barnes Hospital and Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis.

The lecture and reception that follows are free and open to the public.
