When: Friday, February 09, 2018 at 1:30 PM to 2:30 PM
Where: NIL Large Conference Room 2311 (Medical Campus, 4525 Scott Ave.)

Dr. S. Joshua Swamidass, M.D., Ph.D., Assistant Professor in the Department of Immunology and Pathology, Division of Laboratory and Genomic Medicine.  Dr. Swamidass’s research interests include statistical machine learning and decision theory applied to chemical biology and medicine, with special interest in drug metabolism, drug discovery, and translational research.  His research focuses on using computational methods to solve problems at the intersection of medicine, chemistry, and biology.  He has used economic modeling to improve the efficiency of expensive and time-consuming high throughput screening (HTS) experiments, encoding costs and utility in an economic framework, which led to large efficiency gains.  Dr. Swamidass is currently working in close collaboration with experimental scientists to produce useful tools that enable more efficient discovery.
