“The Beautiful, Brutal Binary: Why the Problems of Artificial Intelligence Can’t Be Solved by AI”

Hosted by the WashU Brown School of Social Work

Artificial Intelligence (AI) can automate and bring staggering efficiency to operations, however, an examination of how that power has been used shows both inspiring successes and horrific outcomes.

Join this conversation to consider an inherent limitation of AI: the ability to make decisions based on a fully developed moral lens, due to AI’s reliance on the binary division of information or actions into true and false, or right and wrong. The role of people who understand the limits of AI will be elevated in this talk, along with a call to action to train computer scientists, researchers, and business people on these limits, encouraging these individuals to seek decision-making power within institutions for the power to do good.

This program is part of the Artificial Intelligence in the Social Sciences series.
