“Medicaid Expansion Research Workshop”

Hosted by the Center for Health Economics & Policy at the Institute for Public Health

In July of 2021, Missouri will become the 39th state to expand eligibility for its Medicaid program. This workshop, presented by the Center for Health Economics & Policy, is designed to inform researchers on:

  • The potential impacts of Medicaid expansion in Missouri
  • How to incorporate Medicaid expansion into research
  • How to increase chances of obtaining grant funding

Participants will hear from state and national experts and learn of opportunities for collaboration on research regarding the implementation and impact of the upcoming Medicaid expansion in Missouri.

Featured National Speakers:

  • Heidi Allen, PhD MSW
Associate Professor, The Columbia School of Social Work
Co-investigator in the landmark Oregon Health Insurance Experiment, Dr. Allen is a nationally recognized researcher, writer, and advisor in the field of health policy and a member of the NIH Health Disparities Equity Promotion Study Section. She studies the impact of social policies, like Medicaid – America’s health insurance for the poor – on health and financial well-being.
  • Joseph Benitez, PhD
Assistant Professor, University of Kentucky College of Public Health
Dr. Benitez’s research focuses primarily on the impact of public policy changes on access to care, medic
ally underserved populations and the role of the health care safety net, and the Medicaid program. Recently, he received funding from the UK Schnatter Institute to study hospital utilization patterns among Kentucky’s Medicaid expansion population.

This event will take place virtually via Zoom. Visit the Medicaid Research Workshop website to learn more and register. Preference for breakout room topics will be given to those who register early.
