“The immunomodulatory and bystander effects in alpha-emitter radiopharmaceutical therapy – From observation to quantitative response prediction”

Hosted by the Mallinckrodt Institute of Technology’s (MIR) Precision Radiotheranostics Translation Center (PRTC)

Background: Dr. Bastiaannet’s research centers on the quantification of dose-effect relationships for alpha-emitter radiopharmaceutical therapy. He uses stochastic microscale dosimetry as a tool to better understand the underlying radiobiology and to quantify secondary effects, such as bystander effects and immune system activation, which have been proposed to significantly contribute to treatment response, but their spatial dependence on absorbed dose is unknown. The goal of his work is to establish a truly quantitative and holistic framework for response prediction and to provide the rationale for combination therapies which optimally complement the rich radiobiological effects of alpha-emitter radiopharmaceutical therapy.
