Background: Jean Mary Zarate received her B.S. from New York University, majoring in Neural Science. She then pursued an M.Sc. in Neurological Sciences from McGill University while investigating genetic factors contributing to schizophrenia-related traits and treatment responses with Patricia Boksa and Ridha Joober. She obtained a Ph.D. in Neuroscience from McGill University following her investigations of the neural correlates of auditory-motor integration during singing under the supervision of Robert Zatorre. Jean then moved to a postdoctoral fellowship at New York University, where she investigated the functional roles of the dorsal auditory stream with David Poeppel.
