“Pathological Narcissism: Individual Differences and Within-Person Processes”
Hosted by the Department of Psychological & Brain Sciences
Abstract: Narcissism is one of the oldest constructs in clinical psychology/psychiatry. It’s longevity might be attributable to its broad and intuitive appeal as a concept. At the same time, there are counterintuitive aspects to its clinical definition that have made systematic scientific inquiry difficult. In this talk, I will discuss the current state of the science on pathological narcissism as a clinical construct, and highlight ongoing efforts that seek to understand its mechanisms, particularly as it manifests in social situations in daily life.
