Informational Q&A Session, led by previous Searle Scholars, Pew Scholars, and Mallinckrodt New Investigator awardees.

These sessions are intended to help new investigators understand the goals of these award programs and learn how to prepare applications for the Washington University internal selection competition. The awards are intended for new faculty who are within the first few years of a tenure-track appointment. Instructions for the internal competition are available by logging in to the links below.

Mallinckrodt Foundation Grants for New Investigators
Internal Competition Deadline: March 25, 2021

  • Instructions for Internal Selection (login with WUSTL Key)
    Supports basic biomedical research projects conducted by highly promising young investigators at a time when start-up funds are limited and initial progress is dependent on additional funding. Applications most likely to succeed will be from those who are within the first to fourth year of appointment to a tenure-track faculty position and do not have NIH R01 grant funding. 

Pew Scholars Program in the Biomedical Sciences
Internal Competition Deadline: March 25, 2021

  • Instructions for Internal Selection (login with WUSTL Key)
    Among the most prestigious and selective new faculty awards, it is designed to support young investigators of outstanding promise by providing assured support, during their earlier years, for junior members of the faculty as they establish their laboratories. Tenure-track assistant professor as of September 1, 2021. On June 14, 2021, candidates must not have been in such an appointment for more than four years (not appointed before June 14, 2017).

Searle Scholars Program
Internal Competition Deadline: March 25, 2021

  • Instructions for Internal Selection (login with WUSTL Key)
    Prestigious and highly selective new faculty awards that support the independent research of outstanding individuals who are in the first or second year of their first appointment at the assistant professor level, and whose current appointment is a tenure-track position. Begun first tenure-track assistant professor appointment on or after 7/1/2020. Fields: biochemistry, cell biology, genetics, immunology, neuroscience, pharmacology, and related areas in chemistry, medicine, and the biological sciences.
