“Sensory Features in Neuro-Developmental Disorders: Sniffing out Circuit Mechanisms”
Hosted by the St. Louis Children’s Hospital (SLCH) and the Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Research Center (IDDRC)
Ariel Lyons-Warren is an instructor in Child Neurology at Baylor College of Medicine, Texas Children’s Hospital in Houston Texas. Her research focuses on sensory processing in neurodevelopmental disorders, spanning from clinical application to circuit mechanism. Clinically, she is interested in using sensory phenotypes as biomarkers for identifying subgroups in heterogeneous neurodevelopmental disorders such as Autism. In the lab, she studies neural mechanisms of sensory encoding using in-vivo 2 photon imaging, viral based circuit manipulation and behavioral assays in mice. Ultimately, she hopes to bridge these two areas in order to develop targeted treatments based on identified sensory circuit changes to improve the quality of life for children with neurodevelopmental disorders.
