“Multimodal Investigations of Social Attention in Humans”

Brief bio: Shuo Wang is an assistant professor of biomedical engineering and neuroscience at West Virginia University. He received his Ph.D. in Computation and Neural Systems from the California Institute of Technology in 2014, and did his postdoctoral research at both Caltech and Princeton University before joining the faculty at WVU in 2017. His research has a systems neuroscience orientation by combining multimodal advanced measurement techniques and computational approaches to understand neural computations underlying social attention, face processing, emotion, and social inference. His research not only involves healthy individuals, but has a long-standing and strong focus on clinical populations. In particular, his lab exploits the very unique opportunity to directly record single-neuron activity from the human brain in neurosurgical patients, including intra-operatively in patients with movement disorders and patients with opioid use disorder as well as chronically in epilepsy patients undergoing seizure monitoring.
