“Interplay Between Intuition and Design in Development of PET Tracers for Translational Imaging: Molecular Imaging from Rodents to Humans”

Hosted by the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology Neuroimaging Labs Research Center’s East Labs

Vijay Sharma is a professor in the departments of radiology, neurology, and biomedical engineering. He is also the director of the MIR Summer Research and T32 (Postdoctoral) Translational Imaging in Radiopharmaceutical Sciences (TIRS) programs. As an NIH-funded Principal Investigator over 25 years, he leads an interdisciplinary team of investigators to develop targeted molecular imaging probes for addressing important biological questions across multiple disciplines. His research team has translated 2 new PET tracers (Galmydar and Fluselenamyl) and are on track to translate 2 more PET tracers in the near future. Dr. Sharma is also the principal investigator on Translational Research Development project (3) in institutional NIBIB-funded P41 PET RTRC program (PI: Prof. Gropler) focused on development of PET tracers for interrogation of ROS-mediated systemic- and neuroinflammation.
