“Development of Macroscale Cortical Hierarchies in Youth”
Hosted by the Mallinckrodt Institute of Radiology (MIR)
Description: During childhood and adolescence, cortical development progresses from lower-order unimodal cortices to higher-order association cortices subserving complex cognitive, socioemotional, and mentalizing functions. I will present recent work that illustrates how this protracted program of plasticity endows the brain’s association cortices with unique functional properties, but also leaves humans at risk for environmental insults and psychopathology.
