Abstract: Physiologic processes that exhibit circadian expressions in healthy states are markedly disrupted by severe illness. Ascertaining whether early changes are pathologic or adaptive and determining when trajectories of good and poor outcomes diverge have emerged as timely questions for critical care teams and rehabilitation specialists who seek to leverage circadian medicine to improve outcomes for severe illness survivors.
