Velders Named HRPO Executive Director

Dear Colleagues,

We are delighted to announce that Jeanne Velders has accepted the position of IRB Executive Director of the Human Research Protection Office (HRPO) at Washington University. Jeanne has been serving as the Interim Executive Director for HRPO following Martha Jones’ departure this past July.

In her new role, Jeanne will be responsible for achieving the HRPO mission in protecting the rights, safety and welfare of individuals that participate in research. Key responsibilities include planning, developing and implementing processes, systems, educational programs and other necessary activities to support Washington University Institutional Review Boards (IRBs). She will work in close collaboration with other University research offices to promote clinical research education, training, policy development and quality assurance activities to improve research outcomes. Jeanne will oversee the administrative support of HRPO including day-to-day operations for IRB committee and expedited review and maintaining the electronic IRB system.

Jeanne previously served Washington University as HRPO’s Associate Director for over 11 years prior to joining the Center for Clinical Studies in 2018. She holds a B.S. in Nuclear Medicine Technology from St. Louis University, Associate Degree of Nursing from Jewish Hospital College of Nursing, and completed her Juris Doctorate from Saint Louis University School of Law.

Jeanne has tremendous experience and a deep historical knowledge of the HRPO and IRB functions at Washington University. She is an outstanding administrative leader with extensive clinical research oversite experience. Her expertise in the legal framework and regulations that govern human subjects research makes her an excellent choice for this position.

Please join us in congratulating Jeanne in her new role.

Sincerely,

Jennifer K. Lodge, PhD
