Alecia Vogel-Hammen, MD, PhD, an instructor in child psychiatry at Washington University School of Medicine in St. Louis, has received the American Academy of Child & Adolescent Psychiatry’s 2019 Pilot Research Award for Attention Disorders.
The award, supported by the academy’s Elaine Schlosser Lewis Fund, provides up to $15,000 in funding to junior faculty and child and adolescent psychiatry fellows interested in careers in child and adolescent mental health research. It was created to help reduce the shortage of clinical researchers in child and adolescent psychiatry by encouraging young investigators engaged in mental health research programs.
Vogel-Hammen, who earned her medical degree and a doctorate in neuroscience at the School of Medicine, studies how the inability to properly regulate emotions during early childhood may be linked to psychiatric problems later in life. She received the award Oct. 17 at the academy’s annual meeting in Chicago.
